SURF SPOT GUIDE

About Mysteries

Mysteries breaks over a rocky shelf on the back side of the Anchor Point headland. It is more exposed than Hash Point and can offer a rippable right when northwest swell and enough water over the reef line up.

BEST CONDITIONS

When does Mysteries work best?

Swell

NW

Use swell direction together with period and size to judge how much energy will reach the break.

Wind

NE

Favourable wind can help keep the wave face cleaner and more organised.

Tide

Higher tide

Tide interacts with swell size and the bottom shape, so compare the live curve with the ocean.

Season

Winter

Season tells you when the regional swell pattern is most likely to favour this spot.

Northwest groundswell and northeasterly offshore wind are the classic ingredients. Unlike some nearby points, Mysteries can benefit from higher tidal stages because the reef is exposed when the water is very low.

SKILL LEVEL

Who should surf Mysteries?

Intermediate and advanced surfers are best placed to handle the reef, take-off positioning and faster sections. It is not recommended as a first surf spot for beginners.

SURF SEASON

Best time of year

Winter is the favoured period because North Atlantic groundswell is more frequent and powerful.
